Seneschal – As the legal representative of the branch, you must be at least 18 years old, a resident of An Tir, and a member of the SCA during your term. You need to have internet access (the office of Seneschal has an email account provided by the Kingdom) and some knowledge of Facebook (again, the office has its own account), and the Kingdom Seneschal and Baron and Baroness need immediate access (usually by phone or personal email) in case of urgent matters.

Day-to-day, some of my tasks are to:
- Answer business emails and forward to appropriate officer or baron and baroness
- Manage Baronial calendar for events and activities
- Collect and archive officer and event reports.
- Sign contracts (rentals, storage unit, post office).
- Review and approve financial reports and business meeting minutes.
- Submit event reservation paperwork to kingdom calendar and website. Transfer to event steward as approved
- Make sure that event stewards submit paperwork
- Communicate and assist event stewards (as your deputies), other officers (both Kingdom and Baronial) and the Baron and Baroness.
- Communicate and assist other officers. If a required office is vacant, the seneschal steps in. Recruit new officers as needed.
- Schedule and run a monthly business meeting (curia) either online or in person. Approve minutes taken by Chronicler.
- Attend local events or designate an official representative to deal with any issues or emergencies.
- Attend Financial Committee meetings called by Exchequer to discuss and approve expenditures (about once quarterly).
- Report monthly at curia and quarterly to the Kingdom.
- Ensure that waivers (event and practices) are submitted to Kingdom Waiver Secretary
Suggested technical requirements:
- A computer that is compatible with Office 365 and has internet. Web-based O365 access can be used instead of downloading and installing O365, if necessary.
- Reliable internet access
- Reliable phone for emergency contact
- Reliable transportation to attend meetings and events
- Experience with Office 365, OneDrive, Word, and Excel
- Experience with virtual meeting software, such as Zoom or Teams
Seneschal’s Virtual Presence
In an effort to create a seamless and paperless transition, the An Tir seneschalate has a strong online presence. It is preferred that you do not use your personal accounts (except for phone) for Baronial communication. The official Office 365 account must be used; this assists recording keeping. The seneschal email account cannot be forwarded to a personal email account.
These are the accounts that exist and will go with the seneschal.
- Office 365 account for email and OneDrive – madrone.seneschal@antir.org.
- Facebook individual account for official FB posts and statement – Madrone Seneschal
- Facebook Messenger – Most convenient form of communication with officers and coronets
- AnTir.org website login – to submit event forms and update event information.
The office does not have a Zoom account, but there are members who have Pro accounts (free accounts limited to 45 minutes) and often will schedule meetings for you.
Time commitment and Training
Expect about a 3–6-hour commitment per week, with bumps just before or after an event or during a situation. Additional time will be needed for quarterly reporting and meetings.
There are rich resources for help training for the seneschalate, including regular online classes, a comprehensive manual, and a deep group of officers to help you. The previous officer will continue as your deputy and be on hand to back you up! (It doesn’t hurt that the Baroness was the seneschal only a few years ago!). If you would like to discuss the position in more detail, feel free to reach out. You can either schedule a call or meet in person with Mistress Kerij-e, the current Seneschal at Madrone.seneschal@antir.org.
If you are interested in any of these positions (or others not currently posted), send a letter with your SCA resume (include a modern resume and proof of membership for Exchequer deputy and Seneschal) and a statement about your plans for the job to the Seneschal (madrone.seneschal@antir.org) and the Baron and Baroness (madrone.baron@antir.org and madrone.baroness@antir.org). The Kingdom Seneschal will also review applications for this position as well.
