Curia Minutes –  August 28th 2024

Words from their Excellencies: We will be taking the Madrone pavilion to September Crown and Autumn War. We welcome help for setup and take down, and invite all to share the shade and visit with us.

Progress: September Crown, Emprise of the Black Lion at Autumn War, Rose and Thorn Symposium

Madrone Baronial Court will be shared with Glymm Mere at Autumn War at 4pm Saturday, Sept 14th

Words from the Porte de L’eau Seneschal: Seneschal handover is scheduled for next Curia.

Exchequer: Our 25% share of expenses for Autumn War/Emprise is due, but we expect Athenaeum Pre-Reg $$ from Kingdom any day now.

Officers – please turn in your budgets by the October Curia.

A&S: Many projects going on with lots in prep for largess and Emprise.

Chatelaine: Working on a lawn sign design. We have a farmers market demo opportunity – Sundays in West Seattle. More information will be forthcoming.

More contact/business cards have been ordered – please contact the Baroness for some for your events/practices.

Armed Combat: Back inside the school as the weather has not been great. We have had 5 new fighters authorize in less than a year. War practice will continue.

Rapier & Cut & Thrust: At times, there are so many fighters at practice, we have to take turns. Thursday night practice on the East side is also growing.

Direct conversation is happening for ideas to accommodate numbers. Survey has been written. Approval required before sending it out.

Scribal: We have had people come for scribal meetups who have never heard of the SCA but found us through the FaceBook events.

Social Media: 9 new members added to the Facebook group

Chamberlain: Tables have been requested for Emprise/Autumn war. Old pavilion – looking for photos of it set up so it can be put up for sale. 

GUILDS/ACTIVITIES/SERGEANTRY

Sergeants: Our group of Sergeants and candidates made appearances at Peasants Revel for cheese chasing and merriment and at July Coronation for fighting, socializing and taking care of our Baronial Pavilion 

Coming up: 

Gallant Mecia will be teaching a marshalling for C+T at 3 Mountains Service Academy on 7/27/2024. 

Candidate Val is working on the event bid for our next Rogue Tavern.

Candidates and Sergeants have a planned afternoon of SCA geography and heraldry trivia at our very own B and B’s home on 8/4/2024. 

Culinary: It has been a busy tourney season. Recipe reconstruction will start again in the Fall. Also discussion/planning of a Baronial Banquet in 2025.

Dance: 4 dancers came for the Seattle practice, 8 for the Canton practice. Trahearn attended the Known World Dance Symposium

Socials Upstairs at Kapka School:

Monday September 9th (2nd Monday)

Monday October 7th– Guilds and Groups activity night, run by Keri-je

Equestrian & Emprise: Emprise is a huge event for Kingdom equestrians. There will be riding all 4 days with challenges on Friday and Saturday. Those that want to participate/find out more/volunteer as retinue/ground crew as most welcome. The next practices are as follows:

Official Guild Practice where those who are looking to be authorized equestrian may be authorized will be September 7th at the Garrigues’ in Maple Valley. Also 1pm to 5pm. A Facebook Event will be created for this.

Yule: 2nd presentation at Curia – accepted. Yule will be the Canton of PdL’s official event – December 7th 2024. A day of music, dance and games with Potluck feast and A&S championships at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Event will be free, but donations are welcome.

Rogues Tavern: 2nd presentation at Curia – accepted with caveat from Exchequer – February 8th 2025. Waiting for Vasa Hall to provide rental fee – which will only be available in September. If the hall fee is much higher than anticipated, we will have to adjust event fees to prevent a potential loss.

New Business:

Spring Colloquium – March 22, 2025 – Seeking bids – Due by October Curia

Lionhearts in the Park – May 31, 2025 – Seeking bids – Due by December Curia

Both are excellent events for new event stewards as there is good documentation and experience event stewards to help.
