The rank of Sergeant at Arms was established in order to provide a means whereby unbelted fighters could demonstrate their proficiency in the martial arts and their competence in the gentler disciplines of our culture. The ranks of Yeoman and Gallant were later added to recognize proficiency in the martial skills of light combat and rapier combat.
Candidates are tested on their knowledge in skills such as heraldry, calligraphy, the sciences, chess and other strategy games, dancing, art, and literature. They also compete in a tournament where the current Sergeants, Yeomen, and Gallants may judge their skills.
Their Excellencies Ragnarr and Bergdis, Baron and Baroness of Madrone, invite you to witness to the trial of candidates for the Madrone Sergeantry. In this, the 40th year of the Barony their Excellencies announce the return to the Courtier.
Autocrat: Sergeant Heinrich Wilhelm
There will be a potluck dinner in the evening as the testing is coming to a close.
A main course of cock-a-leekie soup will be provided and it is requested that if you are planning on attending you either bring an appetizer/side dish or a dessert that serves 4-5.
This will permit everyone to enjoy the main course, a few sides, and a dessert.
