Our annual Arts & Sciences and Bardic Championships allow us to showcase the many talents of our great Barony as we select our Champions. |

Their Excellencies Ragnarr and Bergdis bid you to join Them as the Canton of Porte de l’Eau hosts the event, and new A&S and Bardic Champions are chosen among the revelry of Dance and a Potluck Feast. |

Take I-405 to Exit 18 in Kirkland (this is two exits north of SR-520). Follow the ramp for SR-908 East toward Redmond. After merging onto SR-908 (NE 85th St), go about 1 mile to the traffic light at 132nd Ave NE. Turn right onto 132nd Ave NE, and go about ½ mile. The site will be on your right − look for the little green ENTER signs. |

| Competition Info | |||||
| We are now accepting letters of intent for those interested in competing in the championship. Make sure you are familiar with the Rights and Responsibilites of a Madrone champion before you enter. Letters of intent can be sent via E-mail or by snail mail unto the current Champions: | |||||
|

| and unto Their Excellencies: | |||||
| Letters should include: | |||||
|
· Your name · Any fealty relationships you have · A brief description of your entries (ie. "A Reconstructed 10th Century Norse Dress") · Any special accommodations you might need, either for yourself or your entries |

| All letters should be received no later than September 9, 2009 to give us enough lead time to find qualified judges for all entries. | |||||

| Arts & Sciences Competition | |||||
|
We will be
requesting that those entering the championship enter two entries. Single entries are welcomed as well. As with previous Madrone A&S competitions, we will be using the same rules and judging guidelines as Kingdom A&S. You can find PDFs of the related handbooks and judging forms here: |

| Bardic Competition | |||||
| We ask that competitors for Madrone Bardic Champion present two entries. | |||||
| We also encourage single entries. | |||||
| If composition (such as an original poem or piece of music) is a strong element of one of your entries, we would appreciate a written copy of your composition, and any documentation necessary to understand it, by September 23. | |||||
| Each entry will use the following format: | |||||
| 1). | Brief description of the entry: "I now present a fourteenth-century lute piece" or "I am Iago, a wandering juggler". (optional) | ||||
| 2). | Performance. | ||||
| 3). | Verbal presentation of process and documentation. (Written documentation is encouraged but not required.) Be prepared to answer the following questions: | ||||

| · | Where and when in our period might this piece have been performed? | ||||

| Day of Dance | |||||
|
Ladies and
gentlemen of all levels of dancing experience are invited to come and
spend the day learning and practicing period dances. New and old
dances will be taught.
Dance practice with dance instruction will start in the morning and continue after lunch. Bring your court clothes and show off your new moves at the Champion’s Ball right after the Potluck Feast. For more details on the Day of Dance program, visit: |

|
A Potluck Feast with a Main Dish provided by the World Famous Madrone Culinary Guild (cost is included in the site fee) will be served in the evening for all to enjoy (lunch will not be served - please bring your own, or visit a local restaurant). Dish washing facilities will not be available (Bring a garbage bag for your dirty dishes). Please bring something to share: |

If your dish requires Refrigeration: Coolers with ice will be provided for your use. If you would like to bring and share the use of a cooler, please do.
